Our methods are fully insured (5 million with contractors pollution liability), Government of Alberta bonded, home warranty protected, and BBB approved! With asbestos fibres material used in building industry products from the 1930s to the late 1980s, often as a fire retardant, it is commonly found in drywall compound, lath/plaster walls, duct wrap insulation, floor tiles, attic insulation, linoleum flooring, ceiling stipple, exterior stucco and various other products. Asbestos should never be disturbed or removed without the proper knowledge, PPE and training. Asbestos fibres can get airborne, becoming extremely hazardous to human lungs, increasing the risk of cancer and in many cases even death. Asbestos air samples and testing should be done.
Asbestos abatement is carried out with the goal of safely handling the material in order to perform repairs or removal using proper equipment. It requires releasing the asbestos fibres and using specialized vacuums to suck them in after the proper seals and precautions are taken so that the fibres do not contaminate any other area or get inhaled by anyone at the site.
What The Process Looks Like:
Though there aren’t that many steps, what matters more are the precautions involved. It will also require a decent amount of time so don’t expect quick results. See the Alberta asbestos abatement manual.
Asbestos was once a common fixture of construction building materials. Prior to the 1980’s, it was incorporated into a lot of different structures, chief among them homes and schools. Since then, we don’t see it as much though it’s not outright banned either. This reduction is the direct result of increased awareness of the dangers of asbestos. As a result, asbestos abatement has become a fairly regular procedure among those who can afford it. Abatement in is essentially the removal or repair of material that contains asbestos. It is often required by large buildings scheduled for demolition to ensure the fibres are not released into the air once it is torn down. Asbestos abatement is also done in a residential capacity. Defining costs overall, it can be fairly expensive to begin the process. The reason being, you need to pay for almost every step in the process. As a residential client, you need to account for costs.
Some familiar places asbestos fibres could be found include:
As mentioned above, building materials containing asbestos contain one of six different minerals:
These six minerals are separated into two groups for practical purposes. Serpentine asbestos is sheets or layered materials. Only the chrysotile fibre belong to this group, but this type of asbestos is most common in the United States with building materials construction projects. Serpentine type asbestos can be found in plaster, drywall, rubber gaskets, fireproof clothing and material, countertops, piping, and caulk.
